The eighth edition of the Indian Premier League Twenty-20 cricket tournament kicked off with a dazzling opening ceremony at the Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata last night. The ceremony, which was delayed by one and a half hour due to heavy rain, began with a traditional Rabindra Sangeet rendition of AnandaLoke. The eight skippers led by Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni signed the Marylebone Cricket Club's or MCC Spirit of Cricket pledge to formally start the tournament. Top Bollywood actors, then, took centre stage enthralling the thousands of drenched fans present at the Stadium.In the tournament opener today, defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders will clash with Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The match will begin at 8 PM.The eight teams, featuring top international players, will be involved in an intense battle in the 47-day long tournament. A total of 60 matches will be played. The final is slated for the 24th of next month at the Eden Gardens.
