India, along with other Indian Ocean nations, is participating in a major tsunami mock exercise – IOWave18 – being organised by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO. The aim of the exercise is to increase tsunami preparedness, evaluate response capabilities in each state and improve coordination throughout the region. IOC has coordinated setting up of Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (IOTWMS) in the aftermath of the tsunami on December 26, 2004. Andaman and Nicobar Administration is also taking part in the mock exercise today. <br />'' <br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which lies in Zone V of seismic activity, was the second most affected region in India in the 2004 T-Sunami. There has now been a lot of progress in the field of the early warning system. India, along with other Indian Ocean nations, is participating in a major tsunami mock exercise today. Andaman and Nicobar Administration is also taking part in the tsunami mock exercise from 8.30 a.m in the morning to 8.30 p.m in the night. Govind Ram, Director, Directorate of Disaster Management, told AIR that the mock drill is aimed at testing the operational lines of communication, review the tsunami warning and emergency response standard operating procedures and to promote the emergency preparedness.</span><br />
