Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day is being observed across the globe today. India has set a target to reduce the Iodine Deficiency Disorder, IDD, to less than ten percent by 2012 and to bring it below five percent by 2017.
According to an official survey, at present 263 districts all over the country are endemic that is the prevalence of IDD in these districts is more than 10 per cent. Government has taken several initiatives to ensure 100 per cent consumption of adequate iodated salt at the household and community level.
AIR Correspondent reports that consumption of adequate amount of iodized salt is essential for proper growth and development of the body.
