The International Olympic Committee is voting shortly to elect a new President to succeed Jacques Rogge, who is stepping down after 12 years. The favourite is Thomas Bach of Germany. A lawyer by profession, he won a Gold Medal in the 1976 Olympics for fencing. His two main rivals are Ng Ser Miang of Singapore and Puerto Rica's Richard Carrion. The election will be carried out by a secret ballot. More than 90 members are eligible to vote, although those from the same country as the presidential candidates will not be allowed to vote unless their compatriot is eliminated. The winner will be the ninth president in the 125-year history of the IOC. The voting continues until one candidate secures a majority.
