IOA slams AIBA's decision to provisionally suspend Sarita Devi

Indian Olympic Association, IOA has slammed the International Boxing Association, AIBA's decision to provisionally suspend boxer Sarita Devi and India's Asiad chef-de-mission Adille J. Sumariwalla. IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta described the AIBA's decision as an insult to the nation and to the IOA. He said, the AIBA has no jurisdiction and right to pass strictures on Mr Adille Sumariwala. Mr Mehta said, the IOA is writing a protest letter to the Olympic Council of Asia, OCA and the International Olympic Committee, IOC in this regard. The AIBA had on Wednesday provisionally suspended Sarita Devi for refusing to accept the bronze medal at the Incheon Asian Games podium ceremony. Mr Mehta said, the move is unjustified after the Manipuri boxer had apologised for the act, which was accepted by the OCA. He said, the IOA will request the OCA to intervene into this and lift Sarita's suspension.
