The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has revoked its decision to appoint scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi and Abhay Singh Chautala as its life Presidents. Quoting a top IOA official, news agency PTI reports that the appointments have been declared null and void in order to get the recognition of the Sports Ministry and also to avoid any possible action from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).Kalmadi and Chautala were elevated to the honorary post at the IOA's Annual General Meeting in Chennai last month. The Ministry had de-recognised the Olympic body saying that the suspension will continue until the decision is reversed. Newly-appointed International Hockey Federation President Narinder Batra had also resigned as IOA's associate Vice President in protest.While Kalmadi is an accused in the 2010 Commonwealth Games corruption scam, Chautala is facing a trial in disproportionate assets case. Kalmadi had said, he will not accept the post until he gets a clean chit from the court. Chautala, on the other, had decided to stick to his position until he was asked by IOC to step down.
