IOA renews demand for dropping Dow as London Olympics sponsor

The Indian Olympic Association, IOA on Friday once again urged the organisers of the London Olympics to drop the controversial Dow Chemical's sponsorship.IOA President Vijay Kumar Malhotra has said in a statement in New Delhi today that he had written to the President of International Olympic Committee,IOC, Jacques Rogge and the Chief of London Olympics organising Committee Sebastian Coe to request them not to legitimise Union Carbide's role in the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy by granting the sponsor's status to Dow in the Olympic Movement. Mr Malhotra has said that there is a growing world opinion against this sponsorship and the resignation of one of the Ethics Commissioners, Ms Meredith Alexander is vindication of IOA's principled stand.
