Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, has said investment in education is the most constructive investment. It is the primary vehicle by which the economically and socially marginalised people could lift themselves out of poverty and equip themselves with a means to participate fully in community affairs. Laying the foundation stone for residential school for poor, inaugurating the Mother Teresa centenary celebrations, releasing postal stamp on former Chief Minister Venkata Subba Reddiar and unveiling the statue of former Dy. Prime Minister Late Jagjeevan Ram were the programmes attended by her in Puducherry today.Meira Kumar expressed concern on the fact that our social political system has not ensured majority of children between 6 – 14 years are not in school in spite of several legislative measures. She also said education should inculcate essential social and moral values among the citizens , and prepare young people to take the roles and responsibilities in a democratic society she added. Chief Minister Vaithilingam and State Ministers were also present on the occasion.
