Investment from pvt sector invited for HSP rail corridor in the country

Government has invited investment from the private sector for execution of the High Speed Passenger Rail corridor in the country on Public Private Partnership mode. Minister of State for Railways K.H.Muniyappa said public private partnership will ensure highest standards of safety and service quality.

Addressing a function in New Delhi today, Mr Muniyappa said the High Speed rail corridor will become a catalyst for the country's economic growth, a stimulus for the development of satellite towns and reduction of migration to metropolises.

Stating that High Speed Rail is environment friendly, he said it will reduce the Green House Effect by reducing pollution. He added that the project will also generate huge employment opportunities.

The Minister informed that the Railways has already identified six corridors for setting up of High Speed Passenger Rail network. He added that the Ministry has initiated action to conduct pre-feasibility studies for the identified corridors.

AIR correspondent reports that the then Railway Minister, Mamata Banerjee in her Budget Speech of 2010-11 had announced setting up of the National High Speed Rail Authority for planning, standard setting, implementing and monitoring of construction of High Speed Passenger Rail Corridors.
