The State Governments of both Karnataka and Kerala stepped up investigations relating to placing of a country-made bomb in the cargo section of Kingfisher flights after it landed at the International Airport of Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.<br/><br/>The Bangalore city police has constituted five special teams to look into the matter. Deputy Commissioner of police (North-East Division) Basavaraj Malagatti said in Bangalore that police are probing whether the ball- shaped bomb, wrapped in a newspaper, found its way into the aircraft at Thiruvananthapuram.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the police are questioning the ground staff and loading staff of the Airline and scanning through video footage of loading section for clues.<br/><br/>The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has launched a probe both at Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram. Police at the two cities are also involved in the investigations.<br/><br/>Kerala Law Minister M. Vijay Kumar said the Police have registered a case and are very seriously looking into it.<br/><br/>Calling the incident a serious security lapse, Special Secretary (Internal Security) U.K. Bansal said that the only possibility is that it was put at the time of loading of baggage or at the time when it was being unloaded in Thiruvanathapuram.<br/><br/>The presence of the 'country-made bomb like object' of the size of a cricket ball containing 30 gms of 'gunpowder' and wrapped in two layers of paper, one of which was a page from the Thiruvananthapuram edition of a Malayalam newspaper, raised security concerns.<br/><br/>Security officials at Bangalore International Airport accused the airline for the security lapse, saying responsibility of screening the items put into the hold rests with the respective airline.<br/><br/>A Kingfisher airlines spokesman said the unclaimed package was found during routine security check. The matter was immediately reported to the authorities who removed it and took precautionary measures.
