National Trade Union Congress – INTUC – President Sanjeeva Reddy said that his organization will welcome FDI in retail sector if the centre ensures adequate protection for the small traders and workers employed in the small retail outlets.
Addressing a press conference in Puducherry on Wednesday evening after the working committee meeting of INUTC, he said that countries like China, Thailand and Singapore have evolved balanced policies while attracting FDI.
He said the working committee urged the centre to adopt a pro-worker labour policy to promote lasting industrial peace and development of the country.
Replying to a question on the new pension scheme, Reddy said the centre should guarantee pensioners of their money, which would be invested in the share market.
Calling for strong action against Information Technology firms flouting the norms of working hours for employees, the INTUC President said the issue would be taken up with the government.
