The 10th International Conference on Globalisation and Cultural Practices in Mountains began in Gangtok today. It has been organised by the Sikkim University in collaboration with the Japan Foundation.Inaugurating the conference, Governor Mr. Balmiki Prasad Singh stressed on fighting the ill effects of globalisation on the hills. He also called for increased representation of the hill regions in the national policy making and planning bodies for ensuring that the specific need of these regions are also taken care of while formulating development plans. Experts from USA, Japan, Banlgdesh and Nepal too are attending the two day Conference.
