Interpol has admitted the Palestinian territories as a new member, despite opposition from Israel. The international policing organisation supported membership for the State of Palestine at its annual general assembly on Wednesday. Interpol said it also approved the membership applications by the Solomon Islands. <br/><br/>Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said in a statement that Palestine reiterates its commitment to upholding its obligations and it efforts in fighting crime and furthering the rule of law. Meanwhile, Israel's Deputy Minister for Diplomacy, Michael Oren, criticised the vote.
