The Summer Swell Challenge, the third edition of the International Surfing Competition started in Pudhucherry on Friday. Surfers from India and across the world flocked Pudhucherry to take part in the three day event. The festival offered a unique opportunity for amateur surfers to meet professionals. The participants especially upcoming surfers are taught about the rules as it is very important in a contest. Mr.Juan Reboul, the organizer of the competition said the surfing as a sport is slowly catching up in India and there was a boom in this sport in 2002. Out of 70 participants, 24 have been selected for the second round qualifiers to be held on Saturday at the south end of the Pudhucherry beach. With this event, the Union Territory of Pudhucherry is also becoming a surfer's destination like Goa. The State Tourism Department and Kallialay Surf School have jointly organised this competition
