Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that international security is highly under threat by terrorism and that a global determination was needed to fight the vicious phenomenon. He made the remarks in his address to the opening session of the International Conference on Global Fight against Terrorism. According to Iranian news agency IRNA, addressing the conference, President Ahmadinejad said that poverty, discrimination and humiliation were the root causes of terrorism, which was used by evil doers to reach their inhuman goals. He stressed that the US move after 9/11 terrorist attacks had no result but brought poverty and backwardness to the region,leaving many killed, injured, and displaced. President Ahmadinejad said that opening of the black boxes of the 9/11 and Holocaust incidents would help reveal facts about the two major events. Adressing the meet, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has said that despite his government's efforts, militancy was on the rise in both his country and the region. He said that unfortunately, despite all the achievements in the fields of education, infrastructure and reconstruction, not only has Afghanistan not yet achieved peace and security, but terrorism is expanding and threatening more than ever Afghanistan and the region. Responding on Thursday to US President Barack Obama's announcement of a draw down of US troop in Afghanistan, Karzai said his government will speed up its efforts to take over security. The presidents of Iraq, Pakistan, and Tajikistan in their speeches also called for joint efforts by all countries to fight terrorism. The two-day conference got underway in Tehran today which is being attended by the Presidents of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Sudan and Tajikistan as well deputy presidents and prime ministers from some other countries.
