Inclusivity and accessibility have become one of the prominent aspects of the International Film Festival of India in Goa. With an aim to ensure "Sabka Manoranjan" (Entertainment for All), the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is turning friendly for the disabled with some films being screened with audio descriptions and sign language. This is a step towards making cinema an inclusive and accessible avenue for everyone. Even this year, venues of the 54th IFFI are barrier-free enabling the specially-abled (Divyangjan) film enthusiasts to experience the biggest film festival in India. In addition to the barrier-free venues, the festival is equipped with facilities and amenities like ramps, toilets, signage/symbols, and others. Dedicated screenings for specially-abled audiences have been made keeping in mind their accessibility needs in terms of formats of film screening, venue infrastructure, and management.
”
”This year’s IFFI features four special screenings under the ‘Accessible India – Accessible Films’ section. Indian films 'Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi Hai’, directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, and 'Shershaah', directed by Vishnu Varadhan are screened with audio descriptions specifically designed for visually challenged people.
”
” For those having trouble hearing, films '83', directed by Kabir Khan, and 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra are screened with embedded sign language. A sign language interpretation is also made available during the screening.
”
”Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur, in his IFFI opening ceremony speech this year, said inclusivity remains a guiding principle for 54th IFFI, adding that all venues for this year's festival will be equipped with facilities catering to the specially-abled.
