Today is International Day of Forests. The United Nations General Assembly designated March 21st as the International Day of Forests to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests and of trees outside forests for the benefit of current and future generations. The theme of this year is 'Forests and Energy'. <br/><br/>The theme highlights the importance of wood energy in improving people's lives, powering sustainable development and mitigating climate change. In a tweet message, Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu called on people to celebrate the selfless spirit of forests and pledge to preserve it by increasing the green cover.
