Today is International Day for Protection of Ozone Layer. The Government released the United Nations prepared 13th edition of Montreal Protocol, to mark the occasion. It has recognized the country's extra ordinary efforts to protect the ozone layer. The edition also applauded the center's role in successful implementation of all the programmes of Montreal Protocol, which was signed in 1987. It also makes a special mention of India's financial support to the under developed countries to protect the environment.

Addressing a seminar on the occassion in New Delhi, Environment Minister Jayanti Natrajan said that Centre has proposed additional funds to encourage the innovations and green technologies. She reiterated government's commitment for rapid economic growth and sustainable development. Mrs. Natrajan added that the government will offer all out support to modern environment friendly technologies.

The Environment Minister presented this years' National award for prevention of Pollution to Ultra Tech Cements.
