International Criminal Court (ICC) judges in the Hague have issued an arrest warrant for Libyan leader Moamar Gaddafi for crimes against humanity committed against opponents of his regime since mid-February. Warrants have also been issued for his son Saif al-Islam and his intelligence chief, brother-in-law Abdullah al-Senussi. In February, the UN Security Council referred the violence in Libya to the court and in May, the court's chief prosecutor asked the ICC to indict the three men for crimes against humanity. The warrants come as rebel forces say they have advanced to new positions and have pushed to within about 80 kilometres of Tripoli in the biggest rebel breakthrough in weeks.
