Inter-ministerial central team visits Andhra Pradesh

An inter-ministerial central team has arrived in Andhra Pradesh to assess the drought conditions in the state. A group of 11 officials headed by Joint Secretary in Union Agriculture Ministry Upma Choudhary has called on the Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Tuesday evening and examined various aspects of drought at a three-hour long presentation given by the state officials. The State Government has sought a central assistance of Rs 9,747 crore while over thousand mandals in the state have been declared drought affected. The team will visit 14 districts in five groups to assess the affect of drought conditions. Later Ms Choudhary told reporters that the team was facing a difficult job as some mandals were declared as affected by drought as well as floods by the State Government. She however said that a report would be submitted soon recommending suitable assistance to the state.
