Intense cold prevails in north India

Intense cold conditions prevailed in most parts of north India. The 12 fresh casualties were reported from Uttar Pradesh which alone accounts for 337 cold related deaths. <br/><br/>In Delhi, dense fog and icy winds maintained their grip over the city on Friday, giving people no respite from the cold conditions. <br/><br/>About 14 flights were delayed at the airport due to fog. The Met department said that the minimum temperature dipped to 7.7 degree Celsius from Thursday's minimum of 8 degrees. The maximum temperature was recorded at 17.1 degrees Thursday. <br/><br/>The Met department attributed the cold wave spell to icy winds blowing from the snowcapped mountains in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. <br/><br/>Cold conditions worsened in Jammu and Kashmir as mercury dipped by a few notches because of clear skies. <br/><br/>Mercury rose marginally in Shimla though higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh reeled under sub-zero temperatures. <br/><br/>The cold wave continue to sweep across Punjab and Haryana. Narnol was the coldest place with the minimum of 2 degree Celsius. <br/><br/>Cold wave is still continuing in northern and western parts of Rajasthan. AIR correspondent reports that Mount Abu was the coldest place at minus 2.4 degree Celsius in the state.<br/><br/>
