Government says that Insurance companies have agreed to pay the dues of ailing people in the identified hospitals in Delhi, Mumbai, Banglore and Chennai. The payment was stopped by them for sometime for alleged reports of overcharging by the hospitals. Replying to clarifications on a Calling attention notice by S.S. Ahuliawalia of BJP, Minister of State for Finance Mr. Namonarayan Meena said that the payment will be made at par with those who are not insured. He conceded that the public sector companies incurred a loss of over two thousand crores due to overcharging by the hospitals in these four Metros. He informed the House that public sector general insurance companies have not revised or withdrawn the health insurance policy or the facility of cashless treatment. However, the rationalisation of empanelment of hospitals and standardisation of rates and specified procedures are being followed by the hospitals. He added the rates of 41 surgeries have been standardised. The Minister said that a Preferred Provider Network (PPN) of hospitals has been started in the four Metros for better service to the patients. These hospitals have agreed to work at given rates for specified procedures. He said for the convenience of the patients, 449 new hospitals are being incorporated in the network.
