The Home Ministry has issued instructions for strict compliance to the revised procedure for grant of Conference Visa to Foreign participants in India.

The instructions have been sent to all central ministries and Chief Secretaries of state governments and Union Territories. This is for strict adherence to the time line for submitting proposals at least six weeks before the start of the event.

This is to ensure security clearance for the event and suitable assessment of the participants. According to an official spokesman, this has become necessary because security vetting is a time consuming process and most of the organisers of international events have not been adhering to the prescribed time schedule.

According to the revised procedures. Security clearance for grant of Conference visa is required from the home ministry only with regard to participants from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Iran, Iraq and Sri Lanka, Sudan and also in respect of foreigners of Pak origin and state-less persons. The participants from other countries can obtain Conference Visa from the concerned Indian missions.
