In Bangladesh, the inland water transport system was paralysed today with the Water Vessel Workers Federation going on strike from midnight last night.<br/><br/>The workers are demanding the implementation of a 22 point charter including the formulation of a minimum wage and a proper salary structure. <br/><br/>None of the motor launches from the Sadar ghat terminal in Dhaka were operated today leaving a number of passengers stranded. The strike was imposed following the collapse of tripartite talks between government, workers trade union representatives and motor launch owners. <br/><br/>This is the second time within the last six months that the water vessel workers federation has gone on strike. Earlier the workers had gone on strike in November with the same set of demands.
