Jammu and Kashmir government is according top priority to upgradation of road infrastructure in the state. Special attention is being paid to the construction of bridges and viaducts to overcome traffic congestion in cities and towns and connect far-flung villages with main highways. A number of bridges have already been opened for traffic in the state during last three years.During the last three and a half years more than 200 bridges have been constructed and opened for the traffic in the State. While 550 roads have been completed and about 10,000 km of roads macadamized and black topped. 15 major road projects have been completed under Central Road Fund (CRF) and over 500 schemes under NABARD while more than 300 road schemes under PMGSY are presently under execution. The work on fourth bridge over river Tawi in Jammu for which Government has earmarked 147 crore rupees is expected to be completed by December this year while the work on flyover in Jammu is in progress.
