Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said, information with confirmation in media is important besides speed. Inaugurating the orientation programme for Urdu Journalists in Hyderabad this morning, Mr Naidu said, the government is committed for freedom of press but it has to be under self-regulation and evoke healthy debate.<br/><br/>He said, journalists are citizens first and professionals later. The Minister asked media, especially electronic, to stay away from sensationalism. He said, journalists should focus on news, interests of rural areas, weaker sections and minorities.<br/><br/>The Minister said, Urdu literature is a great repository of Indian Culture. To encourage Urdu newspapers, he announced 6 months exemption for them to empanel with the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity for getting advertisements.<br/><br/>Stressing the need to encourage regional languages, the Minister said, training programmes for journalists will be chalked out with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication soon to upgrade their skills.
