Inflation turns negative at (-) 0.39% in Jan, food prices high

Whole sale inflation in January dropped to a negative. It was minus 0.39 per cent last month, from 0.11 per cent in December as per the government data released today. The decline in inflation was due to a big drop in fuel prices which declined by 10.69 per cent as compared to 7.82 per cent during the earlier month. Food inflation during the month, however saw a significant jump to 8 per cent from 5.20 per cent in December. Vegetables inflation rose to 19.74 per cent in January compared to minus 4.78 per cent, a month ago.
