Inflation rises by 0.39 pc

Inflation has gone up by 0.39 percent. Wholesale price-based inflation rate touched 10.55 per cent in June due to the recent rise in prices of petroleum products. It was 10.16 per cent in May and 11.23 per cent in April. Fuel index in June rose by 1.7 per cent while there was a marginal rise of 0.20 per cent in prices of food articles during the month of June. Prices of kerosene rose by 9 per cent, electricity by 4 per cent, petrol by 2 per cent and Liquefied petroleum gas by 3 percent in June. Among raw food items, urad turned costlier by 9 per cent, meat by 7 per cent, fish-marine 5 per cent and spices 3 per cent while prices of cereals, rice and wheat declined on a month-on-month basis. Economists expect prices to cool down from August as the base effect impact starts fading.
