Inflation rate shows marginal decline in June

Retail inflation declined marginally to 9.86 per cent in July, due to lower inflation in cereals and its products. But prices of vegetables remained high during July. Based on the Consumer Price Index, CPI, the inflation rate for June was revised downwards to 9.93 per cent, from the provisional estimate of 10.02 per cent, as per government data released today. Prices of cereals and its products climbed 6.45 per cent over the July 2011 level. Vegetable prices recorded the maximum rise, of 27.33 per cent, followed by edible oils, which increased 17.37 per cent, while pulses and its products rose 12.49 per cent in July, on a year-on-year basis. Prices of eggs, fish and meat climbed 11.11 per cent, while non-alcoholic beverages became 9.26 per cent costlier. The inflation rates for rural areas was 9.76 per cent, and for urban areas 10.1 per cent in July.
