The death toll in the Mumbra building collapse has risen to seven, while 14 persons are reported to be injured in the incident that took place in the wee hours of today in Thane district of Maharashtra. The deceased include a two-month old infant.
The three storey building situated at Bazarpeth in Mumbra area of Thane district, collapsed at around 2 am when the residents were fast asleep.
Confirming the death toll, the Thane police control officials said that rescue and relief operations were going on at a massive scale even as more people were feared trapped in the debris of the building. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals.
Thane Municipal Corporation, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, as well as a team of National Disaster Response Force, are assisting the fire brigade officials in the rescue operations.
