Industry can boost farm productivity says President

The President, Mrs Pratibha Devisingh Patil today said the industry has a role in developing the farm sector in the country. She was speaking at the annual convocation of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi. The President said industry can help boost productivity by providing substantial inputs, in terms of seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and implements, among others. <br/><br/>She said farm productivity has remained low despite employing 60 per cent of the country's workforce. There are many benefits of agriculture and the corporate sectors working together. <br/><br/>The President expressed concern over low level of productivity in comparison to other countries and asked the scientists to bridge the gap. She called for empowerment of farmers for the inclusive growth and food security of the country.
