Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee termed industrial production slumping to a two-year low of 1.9 per cent in September as discouraging. Talking to reporters at Murshidabad in West Bengal after the inauguration of SBI's 1011th branch, he said it may have an impact on overall economic growth.Industrial production as measured by the Index of Industrial Production, IIP, slumped to a two-year low of 1.9 per cent against 6.1 per cent in the corresponding month last year, mainly due to poor performance by mining and manufacturing sectors.
