Industrial production hits 3-year high, grows at 6.4% in Aug

Growth in the country's industrial production rose to a nearly three-year high of 6.4 per cent in August this year, on the back of improved manufacturing and mining activity and better off-take of capital goods. Factory output had grown 0.5 per cent in August last year, and 4.1 percent in July this year. According to data released by the Central Statistics Office, the manufacturing sector grew 6.9 per cent in August, and the mining sector grew 3.8 per cent during the month. Output of capital goods, a barometer of investment, rose an impressive 21.8 per cent, and consumer durables goods output grew 17 per cent in August.
