Industrial production growth slows to 5-month low of 0.4% in August

Growth in the country's industrial production slowed to a five-month low of 0.4 per cent in August this year, mainly due contraction in manufacturing output and lower off-take of consumer goods. Factory output had also grown at 0.4 per cent in August last year. According to data released by the Central Statistics Office, today, manufacturing sector output contracted by 1.4 per cent in August this year. Overall consumer goods output contracted by 6.9 per cent in August, while consumer durables output shrank 15 per cent, and consumer non-durable output contracted 0.9 percent. Production of capital goods contracted by 11.3 per cent in August. But the mining sector grew by 2.6 per cent in August, and power generation increased 12.9 per cent during the month.
