Industrial production grows 2.6% in January

The country's industrial production grew 2.6 percent in January this year, mainly on account of better performance of the manufacturing sector and better off take of capital goods. Growth in factory output in December last year has been revised upwards to 3.23 per cent, from the earlier estimate of 1.7 per cent. Growth in factory output, as measured by the Index of Industrial Production stood at 1.1 per cent in January last year. According to the data released by the Central Statistics Office today, manufacturing output grew 3.3 per cent in January this year, compared to 0.3 per cent growth in January last year. Production of capital goods grew 12.8 per cent in January this year, as against a contraction of 3.9 per cent in the same month last year.
