Industrial production expands 1.2% in May

The country's industrial production grew 1.2 per cent in May this year, mainly due to an uptick in consumer durables output. Factory output, measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production, had expanded 2.5 per cent in May last year. Data released by the Central Statistics Office today showed that output of consumer durables, which include goods like televisions, refrigerators and washing machines, rose 6 per cent in May this year. The manufacturing sector grew 0.7 per cent in May, power generation increased 4.7 per cent, and mining sector output grew 1.3 per cent during the month.
