Industrial growth slumps to 1.9 per cent in September

Industrial growth has slumped to 1.9 per cent in September from 6.1 per cent in the same month last year.According to the official data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the decline was due to the poor performance of Electrical machinery and apparatus which registered a negative growth of nearly 28 percent.Capital goods registered a growth of minus seven percent while consumer non durables registered a negative growth of 1.3 percent in the same time period. In terms of industries, fifteen out of the twenty two industry groups in the manufacturing sector have shown positive growth in September this year compared to corresponding period last year.The industry group Radio, TV and communication equipment and apparatus has shown the highest growth of 25 percent.The general index of industrial production in September this year stood at 163.2 as against 160.3 last year.
