Centre has announced that it will make available Indu Mill land in Mumbai to Maharashtra government for construction of B R Ambedkar Memorial.
Making a statement in the Lok sabha, Textile Minister Anand Sharma said that decision has been taken as both the Houses in Maharashtra had unanimously adopted a resolution for construction of the proposed memorial.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan described as historic the Centre's decision to hand over the 12.5 acre Indu Mill land for a state-of-the-art memorial of Dr BR Ambedkar.
Mr Chavan expressed his gratitude towards the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Minister Anand Sharma for this.
He further stated that since this decision has been taken on the eve of Dr Ambedkar's death anniversary, the whole state is celebrating it. The state government will bear the entire cost of the memorial project.
