Indo-US N-deal no threat to NPT: US admin

Ahead of the NPT review conference, the US has said the Indo-US civil nuclear deal has not weakened the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty as the pact comes with a number of transparency mechanisms. Ellen Tauscher, Undersecretary of State for Arms Control, told a tele-conference with reporters in Washington and New York that it is a deal that comes with safeguards. Tauscher said the US is disappointed that Pakistan is blocking negotiations on the Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty.
Officials of more than 180 countries will gather in New York next week for the once-in-a-five year NPT Review Conference.
