This is Sania's third Grand Slam final appearance in her career — the first two being in the mixed doubles in the Australian Open. Meanwhile, sixth seed Li Na has become the first Chinese player to reach the finals of the women's singles competition. In the first semi-final on Thursday, the 29-year old Li defeated seventh seed Maria Sharapova of Russia in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.
