The Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee today called for enhancing trade and economic co-operation between India and Pakistan. Speaking at an Indo-Pak Business Meet in New Delhi, Mr. Mukherjee said that development of trade between India and Pakistan is necessary to maintain peace and foster development in South Asia. Expressing concern over low levels of integration in South Asia as compared to other developing regions, he said the two countries have a tremendous scope of using their geographical proximity to enhance bilateral trade. He added that trade and commerce has increased after the composite dialogue process began in 2004 but a large part of the trade-potential still remains untapped. Speaking at the function, Pakistan High Commissioner, Shahid Malik expressed hope that the impending visit of Home Minister of India to Pakistan will help in further building confidence between the two countries.
