Indo-Pak opens discussion on J&K issue in Secretary-level talks

India and Pakistan opened discussions on Jammu and Kashmir issue in the second round of Secretary-level talks in Islamabad. Promotion of friendly exchanges between the two countries will also come up in the meeting. Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir began the first round of talks yesterday. India's concerns over terror and slow pace of Mumbai trial were discussed in the that session. The issue of Samjhuta bombing case also came up in the discussions.Both Foreign Secretaries expressed satisfaction with the first round of their discussions. Rao described the talks as constructive and said she and Bashir had exchanged ideas in a focused and professional manner. Today, the two sides first held restricted talks in which Rao was accompanied by Indian High Commissioner Sharat Sabharwal and Joint Secretary (Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran) Yash Sinha, which were followed by the delegation-level parleys.
