Indo-Pak Home Secretary level talks begin today

The Home Secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan begins in New Delhi today. Ahead of the two-day talks, Pakistan Interior Secretary Chaudhary Qamar Zaman said his meeting is aimed at promoting and strengthening peace between the two neighbours. Mr Zaman, who arrived in New Delhi last evening to hold talks with Home Secretary GK Pillai, said he looks forward towards a easier and faster visa regime between the two countries. Referring to the invitation extended by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to watch the Indo-Pak World Cup semi-final in Mohali on Wednesday, Mr Zaman said, the entire Pakistan has appreciated this gesture. Mr Gilani has accepted Dr Singh's invitation. AIR correspondent reports that the two Home Secretaries will deliberate on a wide range of issues, including Islamabad's reluctance in co-operating fully in bringing to justice the perpetrators of 26/11 attacks. New Delhi has also conveyed to Islamabad that it wants to send a commission to Pakistan to question jailed Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, including Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi. Issues like dismantling of terror camps across the border and handing over of voice samples of Mumbai terror attack masterminds are expected to dominate the agenda of talks. New Delhi will also ask Islamabad to hand over Indian Mujhahideen terrorists and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim taking shelter in that country and check inflow of fake Indian currency notes. Pakistan is expected to ask India about the progress of Samjhauta Express blast probe. This will be the first structured meeting on counter terrorism after the recent decision to resume the talks.
