Indo-Pak Foreign Secretary level talks to resume in Islamabad today

India's concerns over terror and slow pace of Mumbai trial were discussed in the first round of Indo-Pak Foreign Secretary-level talks during which the Samjhauta bombing case also came up. Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir began the first round of talks on Thursday, which have been divided in three segments. The first round of parleys is dealing with the issue of peace and security, including confidence building measures on Kashmir. Today, two more rounds will take place on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir and promotion of friendly exchanges. Emerging from the first day of talks with her Pakistani counterpart, Rao said, terrorism is related to peace and security in the region and both the countries need to work together to eliminate terrorism. Bashir said terrorism was as important issue for Pakistan as it could be to any other country. We spoke to former diplomat G Parthasarthy on the subject.
