The Foreign Secretary Mrs Nirupama Roa is likely to meet her Pakistani counterpart in Thimphu on the sidelines of the SAARC Standing Committee meeting on 6th and 7th of next month. The External Affairs Ministry spokesman confirmed this while responding to a question on the issue. Earlier, the External Affairs Minister Mr. S. M. Krishna had expressed the hope that the two foreign Secretaries will clear the ground for a very productive meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers of the two countries. He said that the indication given to him by Pakistan Foreign Minster Shah Mehmood Qureshi was that he will be visiting India in the first quarter of this year. Mr. Krishna said that New Delhi is looking forward to the visit. He had also said that Prime Minister is very clear that there is no alternative other than engaging Pakistan in a dialogue and there-by sorting out the outstanding issues. The External Affairs Minister said that there are a number of issues about which there are similarity of thinking and expressed the hope that process will continue as and when Mr. Qureshi comes to India. Mr. Krishna said that India is ready to resolve all outstanding issues through a peaceful dialogue. He also reiterated that New Delhi expects Pakistan to bring the prepetrators of the Mumbai terrorist attack to justice expeditiously and fulfill its repeated assurances of not to allow the territory under its control for fomenting terrorism aimed against India.
