Indo-Pak foreign secretaries to hold talks on June 24

The Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan will hold talks in Islamabad on 24th of this month. A brief statement issued by the Minister of External Affairs says that Ms. Nirupama Rao besides holding the talks with her counterpart, Salman Bashir, will also call on the Pakistan Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureishi. Official sources said that Ms Rao will be arriving in Islamabad a day ahead of the talks and officials of the two sides will hold discussions before the talks.<br/><br/>The Foreign Secretaries of the two countries have been asked to find ways to bridge the trust deficit between the two countries. They will also prepare the ground for meeting between the External Affairs Minister, Mr. SM Krishna and his Pakistani counterpart, Shah Mehmood Qureishi in Islamabad on 15th of July. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that bringing the perpetrators of Mumbai carnage to justice and cross border Terrorism are likely to dominate the talks. Enhancing trade and commerce, release of prisoners and fishermen may also figure prominently in the deliberations. Islamabad is expected to seek the firming up of confidence-building measures in the talks with India.<br/><br/>Immediately after Nirupama Rao's visit to Pakistan the Home Minister, Mr. P Chidambaram will go to Islamabad to attend a meeting of Interior Ministers of SAARC countries. He will also hold talks with his Pakistani counterpart on the sidelines of the meeting.
