Indo-Pak defence secretary-level talks underway

The 12th round of Defence Secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan on the Siachen issue began in New Delhi on Monday. It is being held after a gap of three years. Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar is leading the Indian delegation while Pakistan's Defence Secretary Lt General (Retd) Syed Ather Ali is representing the neighbouring country. AIR correspondent reports, India and Pakistan decided to resume the talks last year after both Prime Ministers met in Thimpu, Bhutan. According to sources, the talks between the two defence secretaries will focus on the pace of dialogues held so far between the two countries over this issue. The pace of implementation of previous decisions will also be discussed. The Defence Secretary level talks between the two countries to resolve the Siachen issue dates back to 1985. The talks became a part of the composite dialogue with Pakistan, on all issues including Kashmir, from the eighth round of talks in August 2004 in New Delhi. Eleven rounds of talks have been held so far.
