In Nepal, the Secretary level talks between India and Nepal to sort out outstanding issues on water resources begins at Pokhra from Friday. Nepal’s Energy Secretary S.P. Koirala told AIR that the two sides will dwell on resolving all pending issues including the Pancheswor multi-purpose project, power trade between the two countries and water related issues. He said both the countries have already agreed in principle to expedite the implementation of the Pancheshwor project. He said the Joint Committee on Water Resources will discuss about detailed project report of the 6400 Mw Pancheshwor Hydropower project, a key component of the Mahakali treaty signed in 1996. While the Indian delegation at the talks will be headed by Union Water Resources Secretary Mr. U.N Panjiar, the Nepal side will be led by his Nepal’s Energy Secretary S.P. Koirla.
