India and Bangladesh are all set to sign a framework agreement for cooperation on development during the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Dhaka on September 6th and 7th. Briefing reporters in Dhaka about Dr. Singh's visit, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said that in addition to the framework agreement, an agreement for sharing of waters of Teesta and Feni rivers are also set to be signed. Dr. Dipu Moni added that a protocol on land boundary issues related to un-demarcated border areas, adverse possession of land and enclave areas is also expected be signed during the visit.The two countries will also be signing four MoUs related to cooperation in renewable energy sector, fisheries coperation, co-operation between Bangladesh Television and Doordarshan and cooperation in education between Dhaka University and Jawaharlal Nehru University.Apart from this India and Bangladesh are also planning to sign an MOU on Conservation of Sundarban and a protocol related to Conservation of Tigers. The two sides will also exchange letters related to transit issues during the visit for use of Chittagong and Mongla ports. She said the two countries are also due to sign a memorandum of understanding on bilateral railway connectivity amending a previous one to facilitate connectivity with Nepal. Dr. Dipu Moni said that Prime Dr. Manmohan Singh will be accompanied by External Affairs Minister S.M Krishna, Union Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, and the Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram.Dr. Manmohan Singh is scheduled to arrive on September 6th morning in Dhaka. He will be holding discussions with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the evening following which the agreements are expected to be signed. On the second day of his tour to Dhaka, Dr.Singh is scheduled to address a gathering at the Dhaka University Senate Hall on the topic India, Bangladesh and South Asia. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will also call on Bangladesh President Zillur Rehman and hold discussions with Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia, Former President and Jaitya Party leader H.M. Ershad and leaders of political parties which are part of the Awami League’s Grand Alliance before leaving for Delhi on Wednesday evening.
