Indo-Bangla trade fair begins;Focus on transport, construction, garments, & consumer goods

Bangladesh Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the third Indo-Bangladesh trade Fair on Thursday in Dhaka showcasing the products of Indian and Bangladeshi companies.Addressing the inaugural session yesterday, Mr. Muhith expressed the hope that the trade fair would help to boost bilateral trade between Bangladesh and India. He also added that the Bangladesh government would consider permitting Bangladesh companies to make capital investments in India and other countries on a case to case basis. Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Mr.Nabam Tuki who was the special guest at the inaugural session urged Bangladesh businessmen to take advantage of the economic opportunities in the state which can serve as a gateway to South East Asian countries. Emphasising the enormous hydropower potential of Arunachal Pradesh, Mr.Tuki urged Bangladesh to invest in the Hydropower generation in the state. Addressing a Northeast India-Bangladesh Business conclave organized as part of the Fair, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Mr.Mukul Sangma underlined the enormous potential for co-operation in the tourism sector. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr.Dipumoni who addressed the Buisness conclave as the Chief Guest thanked the Indian government for its unilateral decision to provide duty free and quota free access for all Bangladesh export products which has helped in increase of the country's exports to India.Our correspondent reports that the third Indo-Bangla trade fair is being organized by the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with the Indian Chamber of Commerce and supported by the High Commission of India in Dhaka. Around thirty five Indian and Bangladesh companies and a high level delegation of ministers and officials from the Northeastern states of India are participating in the three day trade fair. The trade fair is showcasing products and companies from both the countries in the transport, construction, garments, and consumer goods sector. The delegation also called on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during which she expressed her country's interest to invest in joint venture hydropower project in Arunachal Pradesh in addition to emphasising the need to strengthen trade ties between the North eastern states of India and Bangladesh.
